GMA 7 did a news item on dengue fever treatment using Tawa Tawa. They called me up, but I referred them instead to my cousin. So she got the interview here. Her name is Frances Giron, she’s one of the daughters of my Auntie Portia who taught me about Tawa Tawa tea being the cure for dengue fever.

Tawa tawa is now well known on radio and tv so it’s folk lore status is now well established. No matter if the department of health will not officially endorse it because they are beholden to western medical paradigms where formal studies have to be made first. But only drug companies have the money to fund formal studies. So you can be sure that there will no study in the future because there is no funding mechanism.

Dengue Fever instances in the Philippines are widely reported. Everyone knows someone who had dengue fever in this year. Just today, my son and I are both sick so we are drinking tawa tawa tea. The good news is that Kris Aquino, the celebrity sister of the current president, has volunteered to be an endorser of the Department of Health’s campaign against dengue fever.

Health director and head executive assistant Yolando Oliveros said that Kris yesterday volunteered to be an anti-dengue advocate for free, an offer the health agency was unlikely to turn down.

“She could really be helpful to us in educating the public against dengue because she is the most sought-after endorser in the Philippines,” Oliveros told the Inquirer on the phone yesterday.

In a separate phone interview, Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy, head of the DOH’s emerging and re-emerging infections disease unit, said Kris was a “perfect model for the advocacy” as a mother of two sons—Josh and Baby James—who suffered from the mosquito-borne disease last year.

http://www.inquirer.net/mindandbody/healthbeat/view.php?db=1&article=20100828-289204

Anti – dengue fever campaigns are out in full force in public places and in the news papers. It’s a definite epidemic. Just be careful not to blame dengue fever for everything. For example, my employees sister began getting sick after she got the cervical cancer vaccine shot. But the hospital would rather blame dengue fever. Geeez.

The AFP reports yesterday that: in HANOI, LAOS “— Mosquito-borne dengue fever has killed 36 people in Laos this year, the worst epidemic in at least five years, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Friday.

“It’s a big epidemic year for dengue here,” WHO epidemiologist Hannah Lewis told AFP from Laos.

She said that in the last five years the highest annual number of reported deaths was 22, with about 10 to 15 deaths the norm.”

I suggest Laos take a look at my Dengue Fever Cure website and learn from it, implement it in their own country.

Tacloban City—The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas has made an urgent call for the public to keep their surroundings clean as the number of people who have contracted the disease in the regions since January has already exceeded 5,000, with at least 65 deaths.

The number of cases in Tacloban City, which now stands at 1,194, has already reached “epidemic proportions, ” said city health officer Dr. Jaime Opinion.

Records at the regional office of the DOH show that from January to July 28 this year 5,090 people across Eastern Visayas contracted dengue, more than one-fourth of them in Tacloban City.

The number is the highest ever since the DOH started its monitoring in 1998, according to DOH Region 8 sentinel nurse Boyd Cerro.

Gov declares Capiz under state of impending dengue outbreak
by Jemin B. Guillermo

Roxas City (26 July) — Capiz has been declared as under the state of an impending outbreak of dengue cases.
Governor Victor Tanco has issued Executive Order No. 38, series of 2010 last July 23, which declares the entire province of Capiz under the state of an impending outbreak of dengue cases based on the records in the 16 towns here, including Roxas City.

In said Order, Tanco directed the local chief executives of the local government units, barangay officials and other government officials concerned to take urgent, necessary and appropriate actions to avert a full-blown dengue fever epidemic.
The governor also ordered said local chief executives to immediately create a task force composed of a composite team to prepare and outrightly implement a working plan to prevent and control the occurrence and prevalence of dengue fever in their respective areas through its Rural Health Units and barangay officials.

The task force, the Order said, will provide advisory guidelines and materials down to the household levels primarily to destroy the breeding places of mosquito-dengue fever carriers.

“All government/district hospitals and private hospitals are likewise urged to provide appropriate medical attention to dengue patients and likewise help in the dissemination of health advisory to all patients and their folks for a better understanding of said disease and its causes,” Tanco ordered.

He added that the provincial health Office shall not only continue to coordinate with established Disease Reporting Units (DRUs) but also provide the needed guidelines and advisories so that the Local Chief Executives, barangay officials and Rural Health Units be properly guided in their functions.

Tanco also directed the Provincial Director of the Philippine National Police to coordinate with the LGUs in the enforcement and carrying out of EO 38.

Likewise, he called on the Schools Division Superintendent and her/his assistants to conduct at their own level and in all schools an awareness of the impending dengue outbreak in Capiz to help and assist in the prevention and control of dengue disease.

Tanco finally urges all the people in the province to cooperate and work hand in hand with the provincial and local officials in all matters that are aimed to prevent and control dengue fever.

From January to July 17 this year, the Provincial Health Office disclosed that Capiz has already recorded 1,044 dengue cases with 8 deaths already, which is significantly higher than the 306 cases recorded for the entire 2009. (PIA)

I had a headache. I was kind of disoriented.”

Her symptoms weren’t from the flu, as it turns out. They were the early signs of dengue fever, a viral disease native to the tropics but incredibly rare in the continental U.S. — so rare that it took two weeks, three visits to the doctor, and one trip to the emergency room before experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finally identified what ailed her, in September 2009.

Potter is the first known victim of a dengue fever outbreak that has since led to more than two dozen confirmed cases in Key West, and, health officials fear, may be headed north.

Dengue virus makes you really sick and may even kill you. If you are curious about what it’s like to have this illness, just ask anyone who has lived in the tropics. My brother, who had Dengue twice while living in Vietnam, told me: “I was so sick and it’s a weird kind of sick. I was freezing cold, lying in bed covered in sweat for two days, despite the fact that it was 95 degrees outside.”

The news these days suggests we’d better get more familiar with Dengue, also known as “break-bone fever.” In Florida, an outbreak has been detected, the first since 1934. Dengue outbreaks occurred with some regularity in the 1800s and early 20th century in the Southeast, but with improved mosquito control programs and changed socio-economic conditions (e.g. more spread out cities, increased access to air conditioning and window screens) incidents diminished by the 1950s. Since August 2009, however, there have been 28 verified cases of locally acquired Dengue, and blood tests suggest that about five percent of the Key West population has been infected. Currently there is no vaccine or drugs for treatment, although efforts are underway to create a vaccine.

Dengue’s resurgence in the US does not come as a surprise to health experts, as Greenwire/The New York Times reported on June 30th. The risk of Dengue fever is growing because of three upward trends: urbanization, increased travel, and climate change.

DIGOS CITY – A dengue epidemic has been declared in Davao del Sur following the continuing increase in the number of patients stricken ill by the mosquito-borne disease.

Doctor Azucena Dayanghirang, provincial health chief, said Tuesday that the staggering number of victims – with nine deaths from January to July in this city alone – had prompted health officials to declare a dengue epidemic.

Dayanghirang said nearly 700 more people have fallen ill and hospitals are already congested with dengue patients.

Most patients came from this city.

Doctors said what baffles them is the rate by which the virus is spreading.

A doctor, who requested anonymity, said former dengue-free villages in the province are now reporting cases of the mosquito-borne disease.

“There also seems to be a new strain spreading. It’s deadlier,” he said.
